If you’ve followed the Monsanto saga over the past few decades, you probably have heard about the infamous “revolving door” from the company to high offices in Washington, D.C.
While former President Barack Obama spoke assertively about bringing one of Monsanto’s worst nightmares to fruition, GMO labeling, he ended up instead hiring a boatload of former Monsanto and chemical company executives into top agricultural posts, and even signed the “Monsanto Protection Act” at one point.
Now it appears as if President Donald J. Trump is on the same path, as he has begun to surround himself with many of the same types of chemical industry insiders a little over a year from the date he was sworn into the Oval Office.
Trump Team Taps Former Monsanto Lawyer to Lead Toxic Pollution Clean Ups
According to this blog post from the Organic Consumers Association, the Trump Administration has nominated Peter C. Wright, a lawyer who has spent his entire career helping Monsanto and Dow avoiding cleaning up their own toxic messes, to be in charge of forcing companies like these to clean up their environmental pollution (yep, you just can’t make this stuff up).
Currently, Wright is employed by DowDuPont, the new mega-corporation that sprung up from the Dow-DuPont merger, which is responsible for over 100 toxic Superfund sites that the EPA has still yet to fully clean up.
Wright served as an environmental attorney for seven years at Monsanto, which also has several Superfund sites to its name and is currently being sued by Ohio, Oregon and Washington for PCB contamination to the environment.
Past Superfund sites created by Monsato include its phosphorous plant in Soda Springs, Idaho (where Roundup is made and mined, and local residents have suffered health problems); Anniston, Alabama, which has been characterized as one of the most polluted places in America; and Nitro, West Virginia, which has been ravaged by the release of chemicals like dioxin and 2,4,5-T, a component of Agent Orange.
How to Send a Message to Your Senators
If the hiring of Wright is completed, he will be appointed to the post of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) assistant administrator for Land and Emergency Management, and will be reponsible for holding companies like Monsanto and DowDuPont accountable for toxic waste they dump into the environment.
Sounds like a rather interesting job for someone who has made a career of helping these companies avoid having to clean up their toxic waste, doesn’t it?
In order to protest the pending hire, the OCA has issued a call to action for its members and supporters to tell their Senators to oppose the hiring.

Trump Administration Swarming with Big Ag Executives
While some may be surprised by the appointment considering Trump’s reputation for being anti-establishment, the truth is that his administration has been giving handouts to Big Ag from day one, and the hiring of Wright would be perhaps the most egregious one yet.
You can learn more about his pick for Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue, by clicking on this link.
Trump himself also gave a massive handout to one GMO giant by reducing its fine from nearly $5 million to a measly $150,000; learn more by clicking here.
