The Lasting Dangers Of Chemotherapy No One Talks About

By On May 1, 2017

Chemotherapy remains the most widely used protocol for treating cancer. Considering the groundbreaking discoveries happening all over the world, it is disheartening that the “three pillars” (chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery) are still what doctors choose first.

Oncologists usually recommend rounds of chemotherapy in combination with radiation or surgery in an attempt to stop cancer in their patient.

Those in the cancer industry, specifically the medical system and pharmaceutical companies, never use the word “cure” because they don’t view what they do in that way. That should be the first clue that things in the world of cancer aren’t going well.

Instead of surviving cancer, this deadly form of treatment can actually create secondary cancers. It should also be noted that more people are getting cancer than ever in history.

Not to mention that chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery costs are the most expensive treatment options. Drug therapy alone can cost well over $100,000 per year, making cancer the top most expensive “per person” disease to treat.

While surgery can remove some tumors, it is unlikely that every single cancerous cell can be removed using this method. That’s when the chemicals come into play. The dangers of chemotherapy and radiation are downplayed with a “the end justifies the means” view. Those who have endured these treatment modalities understand the toll they take on the body.

Radiation vs. Chemotherapy

Radiation targets cancer confined to a specific area of the body with high-energy waves.

Though this treatment strives to kill as few healthy cells as possible, it has a horrible list of side effects. Some are immediate, such as nausea, mouth sores, skin inflammation, erectile dysfunction, hair loss, difficulty hearing, and extreme fatigue.

Others can take months or years to manifest but when they do, they are typically permanent. Infertility, damage to genitalia such as low sperm count and vaginal stiffening, erectile dysfunction, fusion of small bones and cartilage at the site of treatment, gastrointestinal problems, or lung and heart damage due to scar tissue.

The most concerning side effect is that radiation can stimulate the growth of a secondary cancer. The long-term carcinogenic toll that radiation takes has been proven beyond all doubt in the last two decades. The association is not a new one. The clear relationship between radiation and cancer was determined after World War II. Countless studies of the Japanese survivors of the atomic bomb by Columbia University Medical Center left no room for argument. The Center for Radiological Research drew a clear line between malignancies caused by radiation.

Chemotherapy isn’t a better choice. It is a chemical bomb deliberately detonated in the human body.

In an effort to eradicate all cancer cells, chemotherapy burns through the body, destroying “active” cells – healthy cells as often as cancerous ones. The healthy cells most often destroyed during treatment are those in the bloodstream, gut, mouth, and follicles of hair.

Yet the dangers of chemotherapy and radiation are still hotly debated even when the proof exists that they may increase the risk of developing secondary cancer.

In theory chemo drugs target cancer cells and work to stop or slow their growth since cancer cells divide and grow very quickly.

These drugs are cytotoxic which means they work by killing cells. They’re indiscriminate. Chemotherapy drugs don’t discern between healthy and cancerous cells. These lethal systemic chemicals travel throughout the entire body and destroy all types of cells. The patients are not the only ones at risk. These drugs are so toxic that accidental exposure – such as nurses administering the treatment – can result in a higher risk of blood cancer, nerve disorders, and reproductive damage in the future.

The Lasting Dangers of Chemotherapy No One Talks About

With chemotherapy, permanent damage may take months or years to show up. Lifelong damage may occur to the heart, lungs, kidneys, and reproductive system (resulting in infertility). The damage to the central nervous system can cause poor brain cognition (especially memory) as well as chronic pain.

The risk of developing a secondary cancer is much higher in chemotherapy patients. Myelodysplastic syndrome (cancer of the bone marrow), acute myelogenous leukemia (cancer of the blood), and testicular cancer are listed by cancer organizations as side effects of this treatment.

Additional permanent side effects include heart and kidney issues, infertility, fever, lung damage, and death. Yes, death. Labels on some chemotherapy drugs clearly list death as a possible side effect. The treatment in this case can be worse than the disease.

Most of the pharmaceutical company drug material (written by oncologists and cancer organizations) tell patients not to worry because once chemotherapy treatments are finished, their body will eventually return to normal.

Stomach issues subside. Hair grows back. Skin lesions and general feelings of fatigue recede and eventually the patient feels almost normal again. Except they’re not.

Decades of research confirm that this method of treatment is dangerous and the long-term damage can be extensive. Chemotherapy is the backbone of standard cancer treatment, administered to kill cancer cells.

Healthy cells become collateral damage in the war against cancer cells.

New studies have determined that chemotherapy may end up feeding cancer cells and providing them with antibodies that protect them against further treatments designed to destroy them. The cancer cells develop a tolerance to the chemicals. If a secondary cancer develops, it could be completely unresponsive to treatment.

Chemotherapy creates an environment that may ultimately be the ideal breeding ground for cancer cells.

The initial body-wide damage to healthy cells causes them to secrete a protein called WNT16B. This protein in the tissue surrounding the cancer acts as the food source. The cells regrow and have now mutated to be resistant to the drugs designed to kill them. They spread to other parts of the body (metastasis).

Tamoxifen, a drug commonly prescribed to treat breast cancer, actually states in its information that it could increase the likelihood of the patient developing other cancers. It may kill one but encourage its regrowth somewhere else, possibly a location that is difficult or nearly impossible to treat.

The American Cancer Society admits that if cancer returns, even a completely different form than the type or location originally fought, it could have been caused by the initial cancer treatment. “Chemo is known to be a greater risk factor than radiation therapy in causing leukemia…some solid tumor cancers have also been linked to chemo treatment.”

Cancer patients who make it through the treatments must be diligent for the rest of their lives. Survivors, despite their success, must remain vigilant in their check-ups, lifestyle, habits, and behaviors. There is no guarantee that they will remain cancer free and unfortunately, their eventual recurrence may be due to the treatment was supposed to help them in the first place.

There is a Better Way

If you have survived cancer, it is critical that you take every necessary step to prevent a recurrence. If you want to do everything possible to keep cancer out of your life, then now is the time to act. There are incredible advances happening globally in the fight against cancer but these breakthroughs don’t make big news here in the United States.

For instance, did you know…

-Oncologists in Latvia are treating cancer with beneficial viruses?

-Clinics in Mexico are using sound and light to treat cancer?

-One American physician has over 100,000 references to validate nutritional therapies?

Cancer is big business and we need to opt out of being part of its bottom line. Experts estimate that more than half of the cancers diagnosed in the world are preventable.
